INA, IL — Two people were killed in a Wednesday afternoon crash on I-57 in Jefferson County.
According to Illinois State Police, around 2:30 p.m., a semi driven by 31-year-old Nodell D. Graves of Madison, WI was stopped on the right shoulder of northbound I-57 at milepost 84 when a pickup truck going northbound in the same location driven by a 73-year-old Terry Stromske from Grafton, IL struck the rear of the semi. Graves reported no injuries. Stromske was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger and wife, 70-year-old Kathy Stromske, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Northbound I-57 was closed with traffic diverted at exit 77 for 90 minutes during the crash investigation.
The crash remains under investigation. No further information is available.
