Elizabeth “Betsy” Baird

Elizabeth “Betsy” Baird, 76, of Bluford, Illinois, passed away at 12:42 pm December 29, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

She was born January 19, 1945 in Downers Grove, Illinois to the late John and Millicent (Bolgody) Quick. Betsy married O. Bruce Baird on June 4, 1966 in Carbondale, Illinois. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage.  In addition to her beloved husband, Betsy is survived by her children, Brenda Hoover and husband, Darin of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Brett Baird and wife, Rebecca of Marion, Illinois, and Branden Baird and wife, Jessica of Bluford; grandchildren, Andrew Hoover, Danylle Hoover, Olivia Baird, Blaze Baird, Holley Whitlock and husband, Billy, Alison Baird, and Philip Baird; siblings, Douglas Quick and wife, Rhonda of Manitowac, Wisconsin, Jim Quick of Galina, Illinois, and Susan Johnson and husband, Dick of Rancho Bernado, California; three great-grandchildren and a set of twins on the way; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betsy was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Victoria Berlin Baird. Betsy attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She was the manager at Checker Gas on 22nd and Broadway for several years. Betsy was a Christian and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and also as an election judge. She also was past president of the Home Extension. Betsy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She will be deeply missed.

A Greeting of Family and Friends will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Inurnment will take place at Sumner Cemetery in Sumner, Illinois at a later date. Memorials may be made in Betsy’s honor to the Home Extension Scholarship Program.
