ALMA, IL — The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the discovery of a body in a creek near Alma Wednesday.

According to MSCO Sgt. Kevin Cripps, they were notified of the discovery of a body around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday by the property owner who was checking his creek for logjams. Cripps says the body is of a male and appears to have been there “for a while.” He said the cause of death is undetermined at this time and an autopsy has been scheduled. The Marion County Coroner’s Office was dispatched to the scene off of Orchard Road where the death was confirmed.

Cripps is working to identify the individual and notify next of kin before releasing further information.
