WAYNE COUNTY, IL — We have received early reports that a Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy has been shot and killed early this morning.

A manhunt is currently underway in the Burnt Prairie area for a suspect that is thought to have killed the officer while they were responding to a motorist assist call. The suspect is alleged to have then stolen the deputy’s patrol vehicle which later located, leaving authorities to believe the suspect (or suspects) had fled on foot.

Both lanes of Interstate 64 have been closed from Exit 110 (Fairfield/Mill Shoals) to Exit 130 (Grayville).
