ILLINOIS (WBC/DANA COMM.) — Office parties and get-togethers with family and friends are commonplace this time of year but eating healthy can be a challenge. A nutrition expert says there are ways to take part in the functions while still watching your intake of sweets, carbs, and salty snacks.
Eating smaller portions at parties or gatherings is one tip. There are some psychological things you can do like using a smaller plate, fill it up and then take a break before thinking about grabbing a second serving. Nicole O’Neill is a clinical dietitian who says you can enjoy yourself without overdoing it.
If you’re currently on some type of diet plan, O’Neill says to just plan on maintaining your weight over the next few weeks. The goal should be to not gain weight, rather than worrying about losing weight. Maintain your good habits, get plenty of fluids and rest, and pay extra attention to portion sizes.
