Denise L. McMahon

Denise L. McMahon

Denise L. McMahon, 59, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away at 5:51 pm December 14, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was born June 23, 1962 in Carmi, Illinois. Denise married Donald McMahon on October 3, 1992. They were blessed with 29 years of marriage.

In addition to her beloved husband, Denise is survived by her mother, Jessie Marie (Sturms) South in Decatur; daughter, Audrey Lilje and husband, Todd of Guam and Chelsey Boker-Nunnery of Decatur; grandchildren, Aylah Boker and Riley Nunnery; and nephew, Joe Sneed of Texas.

Denise was preceded in death by her sister, Sandy Sneed; and grandmother, Gail South.

Denise was a woman full of laughter and life who loved her family fiercely. She had a crippling fear of heights and couldn’t swim yet that didn’t stop her from climbing mountains and snorkeling in the ocean. She enjoyed spending her time crafting and hunting for antiques at road side stores and, most of all, doting on her grand babies. She was a beautiful writer and a walking dictionary. She was devoted, kind, generous, and a silly practical joker -she would do anything to help her family and was a joy to her friends. She had a strong faith in God which helped her walk through her life’s most difficult challenges. She volunteered often to help her church. She left this world too soon surrounded by her loving family. She will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 pm with Ron Davis officiating. Memorials may be made in Denise’s honor to the McMahon Family, in care of Donald McMahon.

The family requests that masks be worn at the visitation and service.

Call Hughey Funeral Home at 618-242-3348 or visit for further information.
