Susan Lynn Gieselman

Susan Lynn Gieselman, 61, of Mount Vernon, was welcomed into her eternal home by Jesus on November 16, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Susan was born on April 15, 1960 in Carmi, Illinois to the late James L. Green and Frances S. Clark. She married Jon Gieselman on June 6 1981. Two daughters were born from this union, Jonna Lynn and Kadie Renae. Susan graduated in 1978 from Carmi-White County High School. After years of being a devoted stay at home mom to her daughters, she obtained her LPN degree from Rend Lake College in 1991. Susan was a dedicated and hard worker, sometimes holding up to three jobs at a time. For the last sixteen years, she worked as a school nurse for Bethel, McClellan, and most recently, Summersville Grade School. She loved her work family.

Susan was an animal lover and was passionate about the treatment of animals.

She enjoyed being a Nana and had a special bond with her granddaughters, Natalie and Emery.At an early age, Susan developed a strong love for the Lord. Her faith carried her through her courageous battle with cancer. Susan was a member of Landmark Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Her favorite Christian song was “Mary Did You Know?”, which she played full blast on repeat every morning while her daughters got ready for school. Susan enjoyed Jelly Belly jellybeans, cooking, working in her flower beds, making homemade Chex Mix at Christmas, spending time with her family, attending parades, and spoiling her kids and grandkids.

She will be missed by her husband, Jon; daughters, Jonna Piercy and husband, Michael of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Kadie Bopp and husband, Blake of Jefferson City, Missouri; brothers, Randy Green and wife, Marcia of Harrisburg, Illinois, Roger Green and wife, Lisa of Burnt Prairie, Illinois; step father, Carroll Strange of Fairfield, Illinois; aunt, Ruby McDowell and husband, Marion of Evansville, Indiana; granddaughters, Natalie and Emery Bopp of Jefferson City, Missouri; step grandchildren, Hanna, Ross, Drew, and Molly Piercy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; long time friend, Brenda Braden of Mount Vernon, Illinois; three step brothers; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She will also be missed by her dachshunds, Mia and Penny and her cat, Moses.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents.

Per Susan’s wishes, no services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Jefferson County Animal Control, Phil’s Friends, or Landmark Church.
