WASHINGTON COUNTY, IL — A 42-year-old Missouri man was sentenced Tuesday in Washington County Court to 40-years in prison in connection with a 2019 police pursuit that started in Centralia in which he and his female passenger reportedly fired shots at police. A Washington County jury found Jared Queen guilty in August of Class X felony aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer, Class 3 felony being a felon in possession of a firearm, and Class 4 felony aggravated fleeing police.
Queen was arrested in July 2019 after he and 42-year-old Maria Moore took Centralia and Wamac officers on a pursuit that started in Centralia and continued for more than 30 minutes and through multiple jurisdictions before ending in Coulterville, in Randolph County. As the pursuit sped through Washington County, Queen reportedly began firing a rifle at officers from the driver’s door, while Moore allegedly began firing at officers from the vehicle’s sunroof. Queen was also sentenced Tuesday to 10-years on Class 3, and 6-years on Class 4 to be served concurrent with the 40-year sentence on the Class X felony. He was given credit for 869 days served in the Washington County Jail.
Moore is currently scheduled for a January jury trial for her alleged role in the incident.
