BELLE RIVE, IL — A 55-year-old Wayne City truck driver was injured late Tuesday morning when his truck was involved in a crash with a train in Belle Rive. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Curtis Woolever failed to see the train at the Birch Street crossing at the Evansville Western Railway tracks before the left front of the semi was struck by the front of the train.   

Woolever was taken by Litton Ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.  No other injuries were reported. The train was traveling at 25 mph when the crash occurred. Jefferson Rural firefighters also responded to the scene and assisted Woolever in getting into the ambulance.

They also handled a diesel spill resulting from the crash.
