MARION, IL — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on I-57 in Marion Wednesday afternoon.

According to Illinois State Police, 50-year-old Dana I. Robinson of Cairo was stationary on southbound I-57 at milepost 54 on the line of the right shoulder and the right lane in a construction zone in a truck with a directional sign indicating traffic to move over to the left two lanes when a pickup truck driven by 23-year-old Nicholas T. Stokes of Pittsburg was in the southbound right lane approaching the construction zone.

Stokes rear ended Robinson’s vehicle with the truck mounted attenuator that was directing the traffic over. Stokes’ vehicle began to spin clockwise facing westbound blocking the center and right lanes.

Stokes and Robinson were both taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Stokes was cited for Improper Passing of an Emergency/Construction Vehicle, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
