Centralia man sentenced in meth case

MARION COUNTY, IL — A 50-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Wednesday to three-and-a-half years in prison after he pleaded guilty in Marion County Court to the lesser of three meth-related felonies against him. Jackie T. Scanlon was arrested in July when Centralia police stopped him on West Broadway for a reported traffic offense.

Scanlon was a passenger in the stopped vehicle and during a search officers reportedly located approximately 40 grams of meth along with a substance believed to be either heroin of fentanyl. He was subsequently charged with Class X felony delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of meth and Class 1 felony possession of between 15 and 100 grams of meth. Scanlon was taken to the Marion County Jail where he’s remained since with bond set at $250,000. On Thursday he pleaded guilty to an added Class 4 felony charge of possessing a controlled substance in exchange for the more serious Class X and Class 1 charges being dismissed.

Upon completion of his prison sentence, Scanlon will have to serve one-year mandatory supervised release.
