NASHVILLE, IL — A 41-year-old Pinckneyville man was sentenced Friday in Washington County Court to 5 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a Class 3 felony charge of possessing methamphetamine.

In addition to the meth charge, Herman Sims was originally charged with two Class 2 felony counts of burglary and three misdemeanor counts of theft in connection with the burglaries of two Nashville area pharmacies. Sims was arrested in July on a Washington County warrant charging him with the early morning break-ins on Friday, June 18th and Friday, July 2nd, of Doehring’s Pharmacy and the Nashville Pharmacy. During each burglary, a male suspect threw a rock or brick through the glass to make entry. Once inside, he apparently took several hundred dollars in Pseudoephedrine from each business. Over the next few weeks, police spent several hours investigating the burglaries and conducting surveillance on the suspect.

Sims pleaded Friday to the meth charge in exchange for the other charges against him being dismissed. He was given credit for 101 days served in the Washington County Jail and was ordered to pay restitution.
