MT. VERNON, IL — A possible plea agreement is in the works for a 24-year-old Mt. Vernon man charged in Jefferson County Court with the severe beating of another man at a Mt. Vernon bar this spring. Hunter Clover is charged with two Class 3 felonies for aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm and aggravated battery in a public place, along with Class 4 felony reckless conduct resulting in great bodily harm.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page, officers responded the evening of Saturday, April 3, to Dee Bee’s on South Ninth Street on a report of a belligerent subject the bar wanted removed.  Before officers arrived, however, they received a second call of a person needing medical attention. A 40-year-old male involved in an alleged altercation with Clover was subsequently hospitalized in serious condition. Clover has been free on bail since shortly after his April arrest. During a court hearing Monday, the case against him was scheduled for a possible plea on November 15.

The case had previously been scheduled for an October jury trial.
