MARION – A crash involving four semis with trailers happened Wednesday night on I-57 south of Marion.

According to Illinois State Police, around 6:10 p.m., a 2022 yellow Volvo semi with trailer driven by 71-year-old Robert D. Dodds of Olive Branch, MS was going south in the right lane on I-57 at milepost 48 when he saw traffic backed up and slowed down.

Forty-one-year-old Joshauwa W. Wiley of Kansas City, MO was driving his 2015 red Freightliner semi with trailer approaching Dodds’ semi when Wiley failed to see the backed-up traffic. Wiley turned his semi to the left and jack knifed the trailer colliding into Dodds’ trailer. Forty-nine-year-old Amanda L. Alvares Santos of Webster City, IA was driving her 2019 black Freightliner semi with trailer southbound in the right lane on I-57 in front to Dodds’ semi. Dodds’ semi was pushed forward colliding with Alvares Santos’ trailer. Seventy-year-old Joseph R. Ames of Dongola (DON-goh-lah) was approaching the crash in his 2015 white Freightliner with trailer when he ran off the roadway to the left sideswiping Wiley’s trailer.

ISP says no injuries were reported. Both southbound lanes of I-57 at milepost 48 were shut down at 6:20 p.m. and reopened around 12:20 Thursday morning.
