MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon Police Department is investigating a shooting Tuesday night that sent one person to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, they responded 6 p.m. Tuesday, to the area of 17th and Perkins where personnel from Litton’s Ambulance Service were providing medical attention to the victim. Officers and detectives began to attempt and speak with the victim and potential witnesses but received limited cooperation. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Mt. Vernon Police Dispatchers were able to use city surveillance cameras to identify a vehicle used to drop off the shooting victim at Litton’s Ambulance. Officers located the vehicle and made contact with the occupants.

Dispatchers were also able to use city surveillance cameras to track the vehicle back to a residence on the south side of Mt. Vernon. Officers and a detective responded to the residence to further the investigation.
