MT. VERNON, IL — An investigation into a pair of burglary to a motor vehicle cases lead to the arrest of two juveniles in the past week and a half.
On August 11th, members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit received information a wanted juvenile was hiding at a residence in the 1000 block of Oakland Avenue in Mt. Vernon. The juvenile was located at the residence and the subsequent investigation led to the recovery of a stolen firearm taken in a Sheriff’s Office burglary to motor vehicle case that took place on July 1st. Then on Tuesday of this week, detectives from the Sheriff’s Office with members of the MVPD/JCSO Narcotics Unit received information a 2nd wanted juvenile was hiding at the Royal Inn on S. 10th Street in Mt. Vernon. Detectives made contact with the primary resident, searched the premises, and located the 14-year-old juvenile. The juvenile was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm in a Sheriff’s Office burglary to motor vehicle case that took place on August 9th.
Both juveniles were arrested and detained in the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center.
