MT. VERNON, IL — It’s going to be a busy Saturday in Mt. Vernon.

Market Days at Veteran’s Park, the ever growing combination indoor/outdoor flea market and vendor fair, will run from 8a-2pm. Market Days runs every month on the second Saturday and provides fresh fruits and veggies as well as antiques, collectibles, handmade items, plants, jewelry, and much more.

The Backpack Block Party and Hand-Up Summit will share the Market Days space this year, which provides an even bigger day for the community. Join Linola Spann, Central Christian Church, Market Days, and Hand-Up Summit as they stuff brand new backpacks with school supplies for local kids from 11a-1pm.

The Jefferson County Historical Society is hosting an annual Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historical Village. Once again, this event will be drive-thru style. Guests may also choose to eat on the grounds of the Village or inside the air-conditioned museum. For a donation of $5.00, guests will receive ice cream with a choice of topping, a large cookie or piece of cake and bottled water. All of the buildings at the Village will be open to tour.

There will also be a comic book giveaway at C.E. Brehm Memorial Library from 10a-4pm. The Library has partnered with Colossus Comics and Games to bring patrons free comic books on the 2nd floor of the library. Costumes along with cosplayers are welcome and encouraged.
