SALINE COUNTY, IL — A Carmi man died and two others were seriously injured in a three-vehicle fatal crash shortly before 4:30 Thursday afternoon in Saline County.

According to Illinois State Police, 80-year-old Doyle E. Prince of Carmi was driving his SUV north on U.S. 45 just north of Cottonwood Road when he passed several vehicles at a time going south. He sideswiped a SUV driven by 28-year-old Brookelyn S. Bohach of Grayville causing her to strike the guardrail on the rightside of the roadway.

Prince continued north in the southbound lane and struck a pickup truck head-on driven by 63-year-old Dale E. Carrell of Grayville. Prince’s SUV overturned and came to rest in the northbound lane. Bohach’s vehicle came to rest partially in the southbound lane.

Prince died at the scene. Bohach and her passengers, 38-year-old John A. Bohach and a 7-year-old and 5-year-old boy all of Grayville, showed no signs of injury.

Carrell and his passenger, 46-year-old Bonnie J. Carrell of Grayville, were seriously injured and flown to a regional hospital.

ISP says no charges were filed.

U.S. 45 reopened to normal traffic flow at approximately 9:00 p.m. after traffic crash investigation and scene clean-up was completed.
