Former Kaskasia College President and area educator passes away

CENTRALIA, IL — Former Kaskaskia College President Ray Woods passed away at his home Saturday at the age of 82.

Woods was also a former superintendent at both Kell and Odin schools. His career in education began as a teacher and coach for Shanafelt Consolidated School. He then served as Superintendent at Kell Grade School before becoming Superintendent at Odin School for 21 years before he resigned to take the President’s position at Kaskaskia College, a position he held for seven years. Woods was also a trustee of the Odin Fire Department, one of the founders of the Odin Healthcare Center, and a trustee for Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin.

He also served as chair of the Marion County Democratic Party and was a former Marion County Board member.
