FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL — A Mt. Vernon man was killed in an early Friday morning crash in Franklin County. According to Franklin County Chief Deputy Kyle Bacon, shortly after 3:30 a.m. the sheriff’s office got a 911 call reporting a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Illinois 184 and Illinois 14 in Mulkeytown. Deputies responded and located the crash scene. Six people were found inside the vehicle.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling north on Illinois 184 and failed to stop at the intersection of Illinois 14. The vehicle continued north through the intersection and struck an embankment. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 18-year-old Michael McClanahan Jr. of Opdyke. The passengers included a 17-year-old girl, two 13-year-old girls, a 16-year-old girl and 20- year-old Aaron Reed of Mt. Vernon. Reed was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office. Two of the occupants were airlifted and three were transported by ambulance for treatment.

Assisting agencies included the Illinois State Police, Christopher Police Department, Coello Fire Department, Abbott EMS, West Frankfort Fire/EMS and Air Evac.

The crash is still under investigation.
