MARION COUNTY, IL — Centralia Fire Protection District firefighters responded around 4:45 a.m. Saturday to a report of a vehicle in the water on Brick Hill Road that was taking on water with occupants refusing to exit the car.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found a Marion County Sheriff’s deputy attempting to convince three occupants of the vehicle to exit the car and walk to dry land. When the occupants eventually walked to dry land, one was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Joe Henderson, 29, of Centralia, was transported to the Marion County Jail where he posted bond on the warrant and was released. Brick Hill Road below Raccoon Lake frequently floods during heavy rains after gates are opened to relieve the lake of excess water.
