CENTRALIA, IL — An order was finally filed this week in the Marion County Court case to decide the outcome of the 2019 Centralia mayoral race.
The Centralia City Council in 2019 found now Mayor Bryan Kuder
did not meet residency requirements and appointed Herb Williams to serve as appointed Mayor until the April 2021 election, which Kuder ultimately won. Then-city manager Dan Ramey brought information to the City Council claiming Kuder was ineligible to serve as he did not live within the city limits. Despite Kuder providing proof of living in an apartment within the city limits, the city council chose to vacate Kuder’s election and later appointed Williams.
In her written ruling ending the court case, Judge Kimbara Harrell denied Kuder’s motion for judgment on the pleadings and the summary judgment. She did, however, order both sides to pay their own court costs.
