MT. VERNON, IL — A 36-year-old Mt. Vernon woman was formally charged in Jefferson County Court Monday with multiple drug related felonies and aggravated battery of a police officer. Shawna Shook is facing Class X felony delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of methamphetamine, Class 1 felony delivery of between 1 and 15 grams of fentanyl, and Class 2 felony aggravated battery of a police officer.

Mt. Vernon police attempted a traffic stop on Shook’s vehicle and ordered her to exit her vehicle, says Police Chief Trent Page. However, she apparently refused and as one officer was attempting to open Shook’s car door she sped off and dragged the officer a short distance. She was taken into custody after a short pursuit. Shook was advised in video court Monday of the charges against her and of her rights before Judge Jo Beth Weber scheduled a preliminary hearing and first appearance with a court appointed attorney in the case for July 7.

Shook remains in the Jefferson County Jail.
