MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Joint Narcotics Unit made two drug arrests Wednesday night.
27-year-old Courtney Weaver of Marion, 30-year-old Brittany Joplin of Benton, and a 13-year-old juvenile were found sitting in a vehicle at 1409 S. 42nd St. Narcotics detectives observed methamphetamine in plain view in the vehicle. During further investigation and a search, a large amount of methamphetamine, digital scales, and an illegally possessed firearm were located. Weaver and Joplin were taken into custody without incident and incarcerated at the Jefferson County Jail. The juvenile was released to a family member.
Weaver was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine 100-400 grams with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Joplin was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine 100-400 grams with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Armed Violence.
Weaver and Joplin will have a bond set by a judge.
