FAYETTE COUNTY, IL — An investigation has been launched in Fayette County after a farmer discovered human remains in a field late Wednesday afternoon. According to authorities, the farmer located the remains around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon in an area between Brownstown and St. Elmo.

Brownstown and St. Elmo first responders, St. Elmo Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigators, Fayette County Deputy Coroner and Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies all responded to conduct a grid search in the rural Fayette County field Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The investigation continued Thursday morning as they are now working to identify the individual.
