JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL — A June 15th jury trial date was confirmed Wednesday in Jefferson County Court for a 20-year-old Carrier Mills man charged with attempted murder stemming from a road rage incident last year in Jefferson County.
According to court records, on the morning of February 7th, 2020, authorities responded to the 1000 block of North Log Cabin Lane in Jefferson County on a report of a shooting. Once there, deputies located a 37-year-old gunshot victim who was transported by ambulance for treatment of a serious gunshot wound. A second 30-year-old victim was also located and transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A black Kia passenger car was quickly identified as the offending vehicle, including the license plate. Saline County deputies later located the suspected vehicle, attempted to initiate a stop, and the vehicle fled. Once the pursuit ended, Saline County deputies took Alonte Beachem into custody.
Beachem is charged in Jefferson County Court with three Class X felony charges – one for attempted murder and two for aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm. According to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard, while being held in the Jefferson County Jail, Beachem has been charged in connection with the alleged battery of another inmate.
He’s charged in a separate case with Class 3 felony aggravated battery and Class 4 felony mob action associated with that alleged 2021 incident at the jail.
Beachem is next scheduled for a June 8th final pre-trial hearing on the 2020 charges in Jefferson County.
