CENTRALIA, IL — A 36-year-old Centralia woman remains in the Marion County Jail following her arrest Tuesday morning for allegedly attacking a Centralia police officer. According to police reports, Carol Joseph was arrested on charges of aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

Officers initially responded to a report of a woman on Linden Street punching the windows on passing vehicles. Upon officers’ arrival, Joseph reportedly came down off her porch and began approaching officers while speaking incoherently. It was then that she reportedly attempted to tackle an officer. The officer suffered abrasions in the scuffle but did not require hospitalization.

Joseph was subsequently taken to the Marion County Jail where she awaits the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
