Pastor Gary Dean Karch, Sr.

Pastor Gary Dean Karch, Sr., 80, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:05 am April 23, 2021 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, Illinois. He was born August 29, 1940 in Mount Vernon to the late Charles and Mildred (Williams) Karch. Gary first married Linda L. (Glenn) Karch on December 31, 1958 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with nearly 44 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on August 25, 2002.

He later married Vena Vivian (Mandrell) Karch on March 8, 2003 in Mount Vernon. They celebrated 17 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on October 20, 2020.Gary is survived by her children, Faith Hanson and husband, Kevin Broadway of Mount Vernon and Harold Ray Karch and wife, Kim of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Nathanael Karch of Chicago, Illinois, Dakoda Hanson of Salem, Illinois, Tanner Hanson of Mount Vernon, and Spencer Hanson and wife, Aleah and Destiny Giles and husband Andrew, all of Crossville, Illinois; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Mae Giles; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and beloved wives, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Gary Dean Karch, Jr.; son-in-law, Stuart Hanson; and siblings, Ronald G. Karch and June Harriman.  Gary started a home missions church, Apostolic Deliverance Tabernacle, in 1980. Church and family was his life. Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, April 25, 2021 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Reverend Spencer Hanson and Reverend Richard Giles officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Gary’s honor to New Life Apostolic Church in Carmi, Illinois.Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 50 people in our building at a time.
