MT. VERNON, IL — A long day of drug busts Wednesday sees six people arrested by the Mt Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Joint Narcotics Unit.

The day began around 6am with members of the MVPD/JCSO High Risk Team (HRT) securing a residence at 320 South 2nd Street in Mt Vernon. During a search of the home detectives located quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl. As a result of this search warrant, 58-year-old Robert D. Cates was taken into custody for Possession of Methamphetamine Less than Five Grams.

Also arrested at the 2nd street residence was 52-year-old Carrie R. Havansek on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver 1-15 grams of Fentanyl, Possession with Intent to Deliver a Look a Like Substance, Possession of Drug Equipment and Possession of Methamphetamine Less than Five Grams. Havansek was also wanted on a Clinton County warrant for Failure to Appear.

Later in the day just after 1pm, narcotics detectives came into contact with 36-year-old Joseph C. Frazier at 2nd and Casey. It was determined that Frazier was in possession of fentanyl. Frazier was taken into custody on a charge of Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Deliver.

Narcotics detectives and patrol officers observed subjects in a vehicle on the parking lot of the Pilot Truck Stop at 4610 Broadway in Mt. Vernon at nearly 3pm. During their investigation, officers located additional quantities of fentanyl, controlled substances and determined two occupants had warrants for theirs arrests. 31-year-old Shaina S. Rodgers was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle.

25-year-old Malayla M. Vanavery was arrested for Possession of Heroin with Intent to Deliver. Vanavery also had a Jefferson County warrant for Failure to Appear on a Possession of a Controlled Substance charge. Bond on the warrant was set at $15,000.

And finally, 34-year-old Odel W. Moore was taken into custody and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. He also had a $20,000 bond on a Jefferson County warrant as a Petition to Revoke Probation.
