MARION CITY EMPLOYEE FOUND DEAD AT WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT IDENTIFIED

MARION, IL — The City of Marion has released the name of the employee who was found dead in one of the treated water storage clarifiers Sunday morning at the City’s Wastewater Treatment Facility on South Van Buren Street. According to City Spokesperson Cody Moake, a co-worker became aware of Chief Operator David Williams’ disappearance and immediately called emergency crews to begin a thorough search of the property at 7 a.m. Recovery crews located and retrieved the Williams’ body from the clarifier at 10 a.m.

The Illinois State Police and the Williamson County Coroner’s office are handling the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Williams’ death. The City of Marion would like to thank all rescue teams that participated in the search and recovery efforts, and especially the Marion Fire Department for their professionalism.

Moake says Williams was more than just a dedicated employee, and his legacy will continue to be honored through the brotherhood and sisterhood of his co-workers as well as the enormous impact he had on his community through his Second Baptist Church family. Williams was the ultimate example of a family man. He dedicated his life to caring for his family, his work family, and building a legacy that will never be forgotten. The City of Marion mourns his tragic loss alongside his family and his co-workers.
