SPRINGFIELD, IL — The Illinois House met this week – in person – at the State Capitol. New Speaker of the House Chris Welch is pressing to change rules governing the chamber.
One of the new rules approved was a ten-year limit on terms for the Speaker of the House and for the Minority Leader. Republicans have been rallying for years on the lengthy reign that Mike Madigan had over the Chamber – but the change was not enough for Republican Avery Bourne.
Additionally, the chamber will have the ability to hold committee hearings remotely if the house is not in session.
