Betty “Red” Plemons

Betty “Red” Plemons, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:13 am February 3, 2021 at her residence. She was born December 6, 1930 in Mount Vernon to the late Charles and Sarah (Marbain) Ilbery. Betty married Robert Plemons on April 29, 1950. They were blessed with 37 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1987.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Lavona Plemons of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Mark Lytle and wife, Debra of Tucson, Arizona, Amanda Lytle of Snowflake, Arizona, Ryan Plemons of Maricopa, Arizona, Robert Plemons and wife, Lorna of Tucson, Arizona, Matthew Plemons and wife, Jennypher of Tucson, Arizona, William Bell, Jr. and wife, Rebekah of Dix, Illinois, Michael Goldman and husband, Brock of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Hannah Akin and husband, Tyler of Belle Rive, Illinois; sixteen great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lenore “Norie” Clark and husband, Stan of Mount Vernon and Harry “Sonny” Ilbery of Mount Vernon.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her children, Lorra Lytle and Andy Plemons; twin grandsons, Adam and Aaron Bell; brothers, Charles “Bub” Ilbery, Earl “Butch” Ilbery, and John “Jack” Ilbery; and sisters, Mary “Benny” Sexton, Wilma Joy Ilbery, Arlene “Tootie” Plemons, and Edie “Noonie” Pitchford.

A private service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in Betty’s honor to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
