PATOKA, IL — A 28-year-old Vandalia man was airlifted Friday night from the scene of a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 51 near the Patoka Oil Tank Farm. According to Illinois State Police, around 10:44 Friday night, Christopher Carroll suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was airlifted from the scene to a regional hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigation indicates Carroll was traveling north on U.S. 51 when he ran off the right side of the road, struck a culvert and ditch embankment.  The car rolled over and came to rest on its top in the ditch on the right side of the road.

A similar crash a week earlier just south of Patoka resulted in two people being injured when their car left the right side of the road, struck a culvert and rolled over.
