MT. VERNON, IL — No one was injured in two separate incidents on back-to-back Wednesday’s where a Mt. Vernon man displayed a handgun during the first and fled from an attempted traffic stop earlier this week.

MVPD officers responded to the 700 block of S. 17th St. for a road rage incident on Wednesday, January 20th. Officers learned a male suspect had displayed a handgun and pointed it at the victim. Through follow-up investigations by detectives, the offender was identified as 22-year-old Devin Bruns and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The following Wednesday, January 27th, an officer observed Devin Bruns driving a vehicle and knew there was probable cause to arrest him in reference the above incident for Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Bruns and he fled. A short time later he was located in the Willow Springs apartment complex and taken into custody without incident.

Bruns was charged and incarcerated for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon as well as Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding. He is also on parole currently and the Illinois Department of Corrections had issued a parole violation warrant. Bruns was additionally cited for Driving While License suspended, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Disobeying a Stop Sign.
