Mt. Vernon man arrested while driving by home where Joint Narcotics Drug Task Force had just finished warrant sweep

MT. VERNON, IL — Shortly after clearing a residence filled with illegal firearms and drug equipment on Casey Avenue in Mt. Vernon Thursday morning, law enforcement from a joint narcotics unit drug task force team observed a Mt. Vernon man known to have an outstanding warrant in Jefferson County, riding in a vehicle nearby. 23-year-old Ashton W. Gill, of East Tea Rose Lane was the passenger in a vehicle that Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and detectives would attempt to make a traffic stop on, but would fail to stop for a short distance.

After a short foot pursuit, Gill was taken into custody on a Failure to Appear warrant charging him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Aggravated Fleeing/Attempting to Elude. During a search of Gill after the arrest, he was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Equipment and Possession of Methamphetamine.

Bond on the warrant was set at $60,000. Bond on the new charges is to be set.
