Mt. Vernon upgrades water infrastructure with new computerized water meters

MT. VERNON, IL — Mt. Vernon continues to upgrade their water infrastructure and learn from the Water Crisis of 2018. The City Manager requested permission from the City Council Monday night to seek bids for installation of water meters for districting of city-wide water system.

Mary Ellen Bechtel says these meters won’t just help in times of crisis, but for future projects in the city.

City Manager Bechtel says there is a still a request out to the state of Illinois for the $60-80,000 that it will take to complete this project. However, she says that could be a small price to pay to avoid a much larger cost in the future should something bad happen.

The city approved the measure in a sweeping 3-0 ‘yes’ vote.
