FAYETTE COUNTY, IL — A 26-year-old St. Louis man wanted in Illinois for failure to appear in court on multiple drug-related charges has finally been arrested more than two years after the $40,000 Fayette County warrant was issued.

Trey Nigel Laroy Cockrell was initially arrested in 2017 by Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies after a search of his vehicle during a traffic stop reportedly revealed heroin and cannabis. He was ultimately charged with Class 1 felony possession of more than 15 grams of heroin, Class 2 felony manufacture with the intent to deliver between 500 and 2,000 grams of cannabis, Class 3 felony possession of between 500 and 2,000 grams of cannabis, and Class 4 felony obstruction of justice by destroying evidence. Cockrell’s bail was eventually lowered to $35,000 and he was released from the jail in Vandalia after signing a waiver of extradition.

He made his last appearance in the Illinois court in March 2018 when a subsequent hearing was scheduled for the next month. Cockrell never appeared for that hearing and his bond was ultimately forfeited to the county. A $40,000 warrant was issued in April of that year for his arrest. A few months later, Cockrell was arrested in Missouri following a November 2018 incident where he allegedly shot at police officers during a foot chase in suburban St. Louis. That case was ultimately settled in January of this year when he pleaded guilty to some of the lesser charges and he was released from jail in Missouri with time served. Cockrell was then arrested Saturday in Madison County on the $40,000 Fayette County warrant but posted bond and was released.

He is scheduled to appear February 2nd on those 2017 charges.
