MT. VERNON, IL — Mt. Vernon is 2 for 2 in recent weeks of filling large, recently vacated spaces around town. The City Council approved a resolution for an economic development agreement between the city, AJM LLC and RK Holdings, LLP for the construction of a Rural King Farm and Home Store.

City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says this agreement is for the redevelopment of the old K-Mart Building on Broadway.

Earlier this month, Pike Systems Inc. announced its plans to open a training and distribution hub at the old Mt. Vernon Neon building on the west end of town. Rural King and the companies involved will have to purchase the building by April 1st of next year. The project must be completed and the store open by September 30th of 2022.
