CENTRALIA, IL — A 24-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested Tuesday afternoon following multiple incidents in downtown Centralia where he allegedly climbed into vehicles while they were stopped in traffic.

According to Centralia Police, Tonnie Pauley was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, criminal trespass to a vehicle, unlawful vehicle invasion, and unlawful restraint. Pauley is accused of climbing into one woman’s car at Broadway and Locust after opening an unlocked passenger door.

He reportedly began yelling at the woman to follow a beer truck in front of them before climbing out of her car and back into the street. At that point she quickly locked her doors to prevent Pauley from getting back inside.

After trying unsuccessfully to climb into another vehicle Pauley allegedly entered a pickup truck near Noleman and Elm where the male driver detained him until police arrived.
