MT. VERNON, IL — Mt. Vernon City Government will look very similar barring one possible exception after the 2021 Consolidated Election. The deadline for filing petitions ended last week to run for five different open seats. Currently, there are 2 open seats on the City Council and 3 candidates have filed petitions to run. The City Clerk, City Treasurer, and Mayor’s seats all will be retained as only the current holder of each is running for re-election.

Mt. Vernon Mayor John Lewis says regardless if the council stays the same or adds a new member, he’s proud of the work local government has done since he took his seat in 2017.

Sitting councilmen Joe Gliosci and Mike Young are both running for re-election on April 6th. Newcomer Cameron Carlile has also filed a petition to run for 1 of the 2 open City Council seats.
