MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon Police Department swore in two new officers Monday morning during a ceremony at Veterans Park. Officer Chris Carlino previously served as a police officer in the Chicago area and has come to Mt. Vernon under the lateral transfer program. Officer Zachary Jines previously worked as a corrections officer and will be attending the Southwestern Illinois Basic Police Academy.
Chief Trent Page says whether its field experience like Carlino or a different aspect of law enforcement in corrections like Jines, he’s happy to have seasoned officers coming into the MVPD.
Officer Carlino is currently assigned to a MVPD Field Training Officer working patrol.
Following 14 weeks at the basic academy, Officer Jines will be assigned to a Field Training Officer and begin working patrol.
