MARION COUNTY, IL — A 61-year-old Centralia man was sentenced Tuesday in Marion County Court to seven years in prison after he was found guilty in August of five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

In the August bench trial, Dennis Tate was found guilty of all five Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse as a Class X felony charge of predatory criminal sexual assault had previously been dismissed.

At sentencing Tuesday, seven years on each of the five charges was handed down to be served concurrently.

In addition to the 7-year prison sentence, Tate will have to serve 2-years mandatory supervised release. He was given credit for time served in the Marion County Jail where he’s been held on $500,000 bail since his September 2019 arrest.

The incidents in this case occurred between 1994 and 2002, with of the victims was under 13 and the other was over 13 at the time.

Tate still faces two other aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges that involve another family member more recently.
