CENTRALIA, IL — Bail was set at $50,000 Tuesday for a 21-year-old Centralia man accused of intentionally crashing his vehicle head-on into another vehicle on Elm Street in Centralia.

James Branch is charged in Marion County Court with seven Class 4 felonies stemming from the September incident – three for aggravated driving under the influence, two for reckless conduct, and two for aggravated reckless driving.

According to police reports, Branch was allegedly depressed and suicidal on September 1 when at interstate speeds he drove the wrong way on Elm Street in Centralia and intentionally crashed into an oncoming vehicle being driven by 27-year-old Asia Agin, of Centralia.

Agin and her 19-year-old passenger Alexandria Koch, also of Centralia, were taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of injuries they suffered in the crash.

Branch was arrested on a $50,000 warrant that was issued September 30 following an investigation into the incident.

He’s scheduled for a first appearance in court Thursday with his court appointed attorney.
