JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL — A 30-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced in Jefferson County Court to 6 years in prison after a jury earlier found him guilty of unlawful restraint and criminal damage to property. Theodore Jefferson was facing charges of Class 1 felony sexual assault by force, Class 4 felony unlawful restraint and Class 4 criminal damage to state-supported property.

However, in September a Jefferson County jury found him guilty of the two lesser charges and not guilty of the sexual assault. Jefferson was sentenced last week to 5-years in prison on the unlawful restraint charge and 1 year in prison on the criminal damage charge to be served consecutively.

Jefferson was free on bail in the sexual assault case when he was arrested in June on charges accusing him of a stabbing in the 1000 block of South 26th in Mt. Vernon. He’s still facing those charges which include Class X felony armed violence, Class 2 felonies for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and aggravated domestic battery, along with Class 3 aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Jefferson is scheduled to appear December 1 in Jefferson County Court for a pre-trial hearing in the armed violence case.
