MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon Fire Chief wants to remind residents of the leaf burning period that is permitted starting Monday, November 9th.

No burning shall occur on any public street, sidewalk, drainage ditch within the public right-of-way, or on any manhole cover or on the property of another without written permission. All fires must be attended to by a person of at least 18 years of age at all times. And burning of any kind may be prohibited during any leaf burning period by order of the Fire Chief due to high winds, dry conditions or other factors.

This leaf burning period runs between the hours of sunrise to sunset until November 15th.
