CENTRALIA, IL — Kaskaskia College is continuing to enhance student career pathways and make building improvements thanks to two new grants awarded this past week.

The Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) awarded the college almost $100,000 for the ICCB Innovative and Bridge Transition program. Ashley Becker is the Vice President of Instructional Services. She says this program will provide funding for dedicated personnel to work with area high schools to enhance and communicate career pathway models, plus promote critical skills gaps as well as raise awareness of high wage jobs in the area.

High schools will be able to utilize a consistent pathway that introduces young adults to career and financial planning. The program also reinforces KC’s networking with regional employers.

The other grant was awarded from the Illinois Green Economy Network (IEGN) in the form of $120,000. Craig Roper is the Director of Purchasing and Auxiliary Services. He says there will be a new solar panel installation for the Agricultural Education Center which will help not only education but energy costs at the college as well.

IEGN first awarded the college this grant in 2019, which allowed the completion of several LED lighting and HVAC upgrades.
