CARBONDALE, IL — A Carbondale man has been arrested and charged in connection with a reported home invasion in progress in the 500 block of East Willow Street in Carbondale early Thursday morning.

According to Carbondale Police, officers learned the suspect, 22-year-old Khilan T. Vaughn, fled east toward the 800 block of North Wall Street when discovered by the victim. Officers found Vaughn on North Wall Street armed with a broken tool handle and used it to threaten the responding officers. Vaughn then attempted to flee on foot but was immediately apprehended. Vaughn received a minor injury and was treated and released at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Vaughn was charged with criminal trespass to residence, aggravated assault-police officer, obstructing a peace officer and criminal trespass to real property. The investigation revealed he also unlawfully entered a vacant home during this incident. Vaughn was taken to and lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
