MT. VERNON, IL — Residents of nearly one hundred Southern Illinois communities including Mt. Vernon have been receiving letters from Homefield Energy confirming their enrollment in the new electric aggregate rates.  The Collinsville based energy company was the winning bidder with a rate of 4.391 cents per kwh. The new rate will be effective after December meter readings and is a stable, fixed rate through June, 2022.

Jeff Haarmann, Partner in the Southern Illinois Aggregation says this rate represents the lowest negotiated since the initial aggregation rates and terms took effect in 2013.

In 2012 residents of Mt. Vernon voted to participate in bulk negotiated electricity rates, administered by the City and managed by the Southern Illinois Aggregation Partnership (SIAP). Participants in the aggregation rates are automatically enrolled unless they choose to opt-out, without penalty.

Haarmann says nothing changes when it comes to billing or service either.

For those wishing to continue participation, nothing is required to do so.  The letters circulating in the community are a confirmation of the enrollment in the new rates.  A follow-up letter from Ameren will be additional confirmation of the program.
