WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 47-year-old Marion man is battling life threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash near Okawville on Tuesday night.

Illinois State Police reports indicate that Travis Akin was traveling east on I-64 near milepost 43 whenever a semi driven by 41-year-old Curtis Evans of Raleigh, North Carolina, overcorrected then crossed both lanes of traffic leaving the road to the left. Evans entered the median and then started to re-enter the left lane when it rolled and came to rest in the left lane on its side. Akin was reportedly unable to avoid striking the semi in his SUV.

Akin was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries while Evans escaped unharmed. Authorities had the highway shutdown for nearly three hours during the crash investigation.

Evans was ticketed for Improper Lane Usage after the crash at 10:12 p.m.
