DIX, IL — No one was seriously injured and Interstate 57 southbound near the Dix exit was closed for many hours after a semi collided with the rear of another Thursday morning.

Illinois State Police say 30-year-old Alexandre Bourcier of Quebec, Canada failed to slow down and hit the rear of a semi driven by 58-year-old Mark Penning of Gasconade, Missouri who was stopped in traffic because of road construction.

Bourcier was taken by helicopter to a regional hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Penning and a Willard, Missouri resident 47-year-old Gregory Adkins, a passenger in the Penning truck, both refused medical treatment.

Traffic was detoured and that portion of the interstate was shut down from the time of the crash around 11am until the evening of Thursday night.
